Hey Caitlin, maybe you can help me out with this one. If you are having a text conversation, and someone else ims you, what's the best way to get from one conversation window to another? That's the only other drawback to aim, other than jaws repeating old messages before it reaches the new ones. Jaws does read them automatically, but it's frustrating having old messages read over and over. I'll download the upgrade tomorrow, I like to do those downloads earlier in the day, incase it takes a long time, or I have trouble. I've been posting a lot today, been catching up over on e-pals, so that took a while too.

The best way is to alt tab from window to window. Also, maximizing each message window helps jaws read out the messages better.

I've had one voice conversation on aim, it wasn't bad, but I've heard a lot of people say the audio quality wasn't that good, but as long as I can understand what people are saying, I don't have a problem. People don't sound garbled or scratchy on it. I only have ten people on my aim list. I use to have about 72, 73 people on msn messenger, but I took 20 people off for various reasons. Some of them would im me while they were heavily multitasking, and that was a bit annoying. That's why I don't im people much first anymore. If a persons' a good multitasker, and can reply reasonably fast and multitask too, it's cool, but I hate it when they take 5 to ten minutes each time. If they're new and they're just tryingto figure out how it works, well I can understand that, and have patience with it, but I just don't have patience with people who im me and leave me hanging so long I forgot what the conversation was all about.

thanks sweet serendipity, you really are sweet. Ok I'll try that, seems like I tried alt tabbing, but it just didn't get to it, unless it was some other sound and not someone imming me. Oh btw, I do have an older version, 4.7. and my version doesn't let you know when someone adds you. The people who added me had to tell me about it so I'd know.

Hi Wonderwoman, Sorry it took me so long to finally get to this topic, I think I somehow missed it before. Anyway, yep, alt tabbing should do the trick with the version I sent you. And voice chat on AIM is okay, not great. Skype, Ventrilo, Ivolcalize, etc., are better, but it could be a lot worse! Anyway hope this helps!

Thanks Caitlin, well when I get my spam quaranteen report tomorrow, I'll check and see if your email is in it, and I added you to msn messenger. It takes me a few minutes to add someone, because the first thing jaws says when someone adds me is block this person from seeing when you are online, and arrowing up and down won't read the whole thing, so I have to alt tab, then alt back to that window, then jaws will read the choices, then I can add them, so you're on my msn messenger list now.

Hi Caitlin,
Well, I started to install it, It was ok to just open it, but I got a message saying a required .dll file wasn't found. Don't know what the problem is there. sigh.

Hi WW. Hmmm. I'm not quite sure what to tell you. I could try resending it again if you want? Caitlin

Thanks Caitlin, but I don't think it would do any good. From what it said, a file is missing, a dll file, can't remember what dll file, but I had this sort of problem with the pal talk program, and it turned out that when they upgraded it from version 4.0 to 5.0, it wasn't compatible with windows 95 anymore, so maybe aim 5.2 isn't compatible with windows 98, oh well, thems the breaks.

Oh WW! I'm so so rry, I'm sure that's it. I don't think AIM works with Win 95 anymore! Sorry! But ... will you still be on the version you have, or do you not wanna go on AIM at all? Caitlin

Post 12 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 21:31:08

I'll still go on there, but it might take a few extra minutes to answer you, because I have to wait till jaws reads the newer messages. I have windows 98, but maybe you have to have xp for aim 5.2 to work. I just don't use aim because jaws repeats old messages, but I will go on there, and maybe we can voice chat, then I won't have that problem.

Hahah it's Okay Wonderwoman I take forever to answer too sometimes, and my AIM works fine.

Well you probably have xp, but I can't upgrade to xp on this computer, and don't want to do that for one program, but I am on aim right now, and my user name on there is tarhill woman

Post 15 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 21:56:54

Hi WW Yep I have Xp. But I understand how you dont' wanna get it just for one program that makes sense. Caitlin

Post 16 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 22:05:48

yeah I really thought for a minute there, jaws was just going to read all new messages and not keep repeating the old ones but no such luck. Well, I don't know why it's talking while I'm typint in the message window.

I hardly use aim. Just one of those things lol. I enjoy using Msn Messenger with the pacmate. It'd be interesting to try aim for pocket pc out one of these days.

Post 18 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 22:42:44

know what you mean. the problem with aim is it's also not as easy switch from one message window to another if someone else ims you, but aim is Caitlins preference, but I can communicate better on msn messenger.

Hi BlindVI, I think you can use AIM with Pac Mate? I know it has apocket PC/cell phone/palm pilot type deal? Anyway if you do try it on teh Pack mate lemme know if it works. Thanks! Caitlin
